Working with adults, young people and children
Sometimes, whatever your age, it is hard to talk to friends or family about what you are going through and how it makes you feel. Advice given, though often well meant, can be confusing, perhaps coming from people who are too close and trying to ‘fix’ things.
The counselling room is a place to offload. It is a place to get a different perspective; to regain some lost strength and to gain a better understanding of where you are now and make positive choices for the future with someone who cares and won’t judge you.
My approach is to use common sense and is simple. I follow you and your needs, working alongside you in a safe, confidential way, listening carefully, reflecting back and clarifying confusion. This counselling process helps you to deal with the things that need to be changed and to come to terms with those that can’t, to help you move forward.
Alongside my private practice I have worked as a counsellor for a bereavement charity, a family mediation organisation, in primary schools, a children’s home and as a telephone counsellor for an Employee Assistance provider. I have a particular interest in supporting parents and young people adjusting to life after separation and coping with new step families.
I am fully insured, DBS checked and an Accredited Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, abiding by their code of ethics. I also work as an affiliate counsellor with a number of EAP providers, including BUPA and Optum.
