Hello, my name is Jacquie Barnett and I'm a BACP-registered counsellor and psychotherapist. I provide counselling and psychotherapy in private practice to people over 18 years of age. I am a volunteer school counsellor at a secondary school in Oxford and have three years' experience working as a volunteer counsellor within family and mental health charities in Warwickshire.
I am an integrative, humanistic counsellor, which essentially means our sessions will be led by you and tailored to suit your needs. I recognise the importance of building a shared agreement for therapy, where your goals are central to our sessions.
My core approaches are Person-Centred, Transactional Analysis and Gestalt which, briefly, may influence our sessions in a number of ways:
Person-Centred reflects a personal belief that all people are essentially good and can fulfil their potential given the ‘right’ conditions. I will therefore aim to create a trusting, accepting and empathic space to help you explore whatever you wish to explore, developing your sense of self to help you with decision-making, improved self-belief, confidence etc.
Transactional Analysis looks at how we behave in our relations with others and offers some interesting psychological insights which we may look at in the sessions. I will also ask your aims/goals of therapy and review them with you as we go along.
Gestalt focuses on how of events happening in everyday life are impacting you presently. We may therefore explore what is going on for you ‘in the moment’ and how things might change.
Clients have counselling for many reasons and there is nothing too big or too small to bring to therapy. I am passionate about providing a safe, respectful, confidential and calm space to help explore whatever you wish to explore, without judgement.
I am also trained in a number of holistic therapies and therefore have a natural interest in the connections between mind, body and spirit to maintaining overall health.
Choosing a counsellor can be daunting or confusing. It’ss very important you feel comfortable with your choice, so I offer a free, confidential 15 minute phone call for you to see if I’m the right therapist for you.
